One of my co-workers also said things tend to crawl out of the drains in first floor apartments. I've never lived in one in Korea before, but she was right about the Kimchi smell fouling up my bathroom thanks to the drains, so I trust her about the bugs.
Also the third floor is the top floor so no Koreans stomping around over my head. Compared to my previous apartment this building is quiet, but considering that I posed the question of moving and room 301 was available is kind of kismet, seeing as these corner apartments are bigger than the others. Finally, and most awesome of all is my new apartment will get about an hour of sun a day. (as opposed to no sun, ever.) Despite all the reasons I've given, moving into the exact same apartment on the third level won't make sense to some people. I considered that too, especially since the noise argument isn't too valid. This building is quiet by any country's standards. I suppose what it really comes down to is the window. Sometimes the opportunity for light comes into your life in an expected way and not as fully as you had hoped. I've let enough of those those moments pass me by to realized that you find yourself stuck in a shadow c̶a̶s̶t̶ ̶b̶y̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶l̶a̶r̶g̶e̶ ̶a̶p̶a̶r̶t̶m̶e̶n̶t̶ ̶b̶u̶i̶l̶d̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶n̶e̶x̶t̶ ̶d̶o̶o̶r̶ of any kind, and a chance comes along to get some sun, it's wise to take it, regardless of how it will shine. |
